Hoo Crew is the official student fan group at the University of Virginia that strives to engage all students at Virginia athletic events. Founded in the fall of 2005, Hoo Crew’s mission is to enhance the game atmosphere at all home Virginia athletics events with an emphasis on Men’s Basketball. The Hoo Crew t-shirt for the year will be handed out at select Sabre Rewards Events while supplies last.
In 2014, Hoo Crew received the Naismith Student Section of the Year Award, which is dedicated to celebrating the students and fans that support their college basketball team with the most passion and devotion.
In 2016, ESPN College GameDay came to Charlottesville for the No. 3 Cavaliers’ matchup against No. 7 North Carolina. ESPN GameDay host Rece Davis spoke about how responsive the Hoo Crew was, stating, “I don’t like to rank crowds … but I’m so old now, I don’t care if people get mad. If they get mad, be better than Virginia.” (Washington Post)
Hoo Crew was founded by students, is run by students, and strives to engage all students at Virginia athletic events.
NOTE: Although this organization has members who are University of Virginia students and may have University employees associated or engaged in its activities and affairs, the organization is not a part of or an agency of the University. It is a separate and independent organization which is responsible for and manages its own activities and affairs. The University does not direct, supervise or control the organization and is not responsible for the organization’s contracts, acts or omissions.
